One of the things I miss most this time of year was the wonderful holiday marketplace set up in Market Square in downtown Knoxville. Holiday markets not only deliver unique gift ideas; they bring with them the delight of the holiday season itself.
I know putting up your booth for the holiday market is an important investment, taking time and effort. Here are five easy ways to add some Holiday Season magic without taking too much time away from your actual product-making time.

Add a little green Replace your standard banners and bunting with fresh greenery or holiday-related banners. PaperSource has some adorable garlands on sale right now. |

Use holiday season displays In a Pre-Thanksgiving show? Consider using a cornucopia spilling out with pendants or scarves. Instead of your normal dangle display for hanging items, can you buy some small trees and use those? You can also add small holiday elements like hanging stockings along the front of tables, snowflake confetti or jars of shiny ornament balls here and there. |

Offer pre-wrapped gifts If you carry similar items, showcase one or two but pre-wrap a bunch and place in a galvanized tub to display. It’s great customer service (and far less time consuming than offering free gift wrapping after purchase) and it saves them the trouble of wrapping. |

Create an audience-drawing photo spot If you are at a corner space where the outside of your booth is under utilized, consider adding a fun photo booth display to draw people over, stop and increase the good vibes by your booth. Simply hang fun wrapping paper, red and gold streamers or strands of holiday lights. If you make rocking horses or large items, add one or two into the shot as props. |

Add some twinkle with holiday lights Extra light in a booth never hurt anyone. You can go delicate by wrapping lights around the booth poles or shelves. There are wonderful LED light strands that only require two AA batteries and do a great drop for being so small. Pop them into a jar, wrap around a tiny tree. My favorite idea? Place numerous strands behind a light fabric for your backwall and really light up the place. You could also do a lightweight fabric on your tables and have lights under there. |
Remember to have fun and enjoy yourselves. Wear a Santa or elf hat. Give out candy canes to kids. and I’d love to hear how you dress up your booth for the holiday marketplace.
