The truth is…
Consistency is hard. Especially being consistent for myself versus completing consistent actions for a client or loved one. Why is that?
Why is it so easy for me to cast aside my own important needs aheads of others? Take for instance, blogging and social media. I’m in marketing. I know social media is one of the best ways – and FREE ways – for me to grow my prospect list. Blogging is one of the easiest ways to improve SEO, keep your site looking fresh and demonstrate expertise.
I’m in marketing. I’ve got a lovely little schedule, a planned content strategy and lots of visual aids at the ready. I have multiple ideas from all my research.
But being consistent is the key difference of all business aspects if you think about. Be consistent in customer service so no matter who answers the phone they receive a nice greeting, receive the same answers as someone else. Being consistent in shipping and packaging so the customer knows and likes what they get. Being consistent in the formulation of manufactured products to ensure quality. And being consistent in our communications.
This is no different for personal branding as it is for an entire organization. It feels like we’re hitting people over and over on the head but we’re actually hitting new heads when we share our message again and again. The tried-and-true rule of thumb is it takes 17 times for someone to hear/see a brand message to remember.
So I’m trying once again, folks. To faithfully follow my content management plan for the next three months. I’m disguising my interest as a research/case study for “my clients” – will I see a pick up in three months? What changes will come about if I do this consistently? More importantly is what will I learn about myself. Maybe my content plan is too much currently. Maybe I’ll find there are only two of my topics people really love versus all five and I can course correct for 2016.
So today, keep applying for those jobs, posting to your blog, sending tweets. I know it feels some days like they end up in a black hole but you’ll know you did something today to be consistent. You took action. You made an effort.
Bravo!
